one more thing

About my need to work: this makes me feel better.

"The passage into mystery always refreshes. If, when we work, we can look once a day upon the face of mystery, then our labor satisfies. We are lightened when our gifts rise from pools we cannot fathom."
Lewis Hyde, The Gift (25)

Okay, I agree with you, but there is a flip side. If one works because one feels better, it begs the question of better than what? Better than being a human being with emotions and feelings and needs?

When it becomes a means of not facing the opportunities to deal with those emotions, feelings, and needs, then what's the difference between working and taking a wee dram o' Scotch?

I think we need to be on our guard and check our rationalizations every so often to ensure we don't slip over the edge and lock ourselves away from ourselves and others around us. I'm sure we all know a few examples of people who do just that; they find it easier to work, work, work than face the real need of getting a divorce or whatever isn't working in their lives.
