tornado watch
This girl from Massachusetts isn't quite sure how to react to a department listserv message that the entire state of Illinois is under a tornado watch until 8:00 tonight. Do I go outside and watch? Do I panic? Do I teach class? Do I move to a house with a basement? Do I tie bricks to Belly so she won't blow away? Do I follow the yellow brick road?

You find out whether your town has an alarm system. If they do, you keep your radio, tv, and stereo off so that you can hear the alarm. If they don't, then you keep your radio and tv on so you can get alerts. And if a storm's in your area, you and the Belly get in the bathtub. When Teakettle and I lived in Fort Worth, Teakettle loudly objected to the bathtub drill. But I wasn't about to have her blow away with the house. Fortunately, though we did weather several tornadoes in our area, none ever struck our house.
