new Trident watermelon

Being on the strict phase of the South Beach diet fuels my addiction for Trident's Tropical Twist flavor because it tastes like I'm having a sweet treat. Today at Target I found a new flavor of Trident: Watermelon Twist. I do believe I can safely say that the watermelon twist (what the hell's twisted about either of these flavors is indeed a mystery) allows larger bubbles and feels even more like I'm having a sweet treat. Plus with the new easy open packs, I always feel so cool flipping the top open to get my gum. Kinda like I'm flipping it open to get a cigarette except not.

See what happens to my blog when I'm deprived of Scrabble? I write about g.d. gum!

Oooh--I sooo wish I'd read this before my visit to Target today...*sigh*

What's worse than blogging about gum? Commenting about it. Gloriosky, Professor: I was in Wegman's yesterday and bought watermelon Trident. And it gets worse: I thought of you. And yet worse: I remembered a conversation that you and I had about Trident orange when last I saw you, in Michigan, in September.
So much for the two of us as high-powered scholars pondering deep intellectual issues.

I'm sure we can come up with a conference proposal about gum as metaphor: elasticity, or mayhaps the recursive process of gum-chewing? Or, that sense of working an idea 'til the flavor's gone out of it, and *then* it's "academic"! (g)

WAYYYYY off topic here, and way over-hyped this week, but just wondering what you might have to say about the James Frey thing, given your work with personal narrative and what-have-you. Maybe this has nothing to do with your work. Just wondering. Mikey

I'm wondering too...was planning to send you an email on the topic. No doubt your class from last fall woulda had something to say...

Oh, I read the whole thing last night...and here's my first impression. I literally JUST finished _My Friend Leonard_ and I think that the persona he created in order to tell his story is more important and more meaningful than whether the "facts" were 100% true. Which stories that we tell about ourselves are completely true? As for this having an effect on people recovering from drug addictions, on the one hand, I think they need to get professional help, but on the other hand, I think well, but memoir IS powerful and does have that influence on people...I'm not really sure. But I guess at the end of the day, I'm thankful to Frey for giving me a great reading experience, for bringing me close to tears, and for having it in him to write what he did even if it wasn't exactly how it happened. Joan Didion says we write to remember how it *feels* to be ourselves. What it feels like: maybe that's what's most valuable about Frey's work. I got a lot out of it.

Zebra Stipe Gum
Orange Tic Tacs

I could create an entree around those to items. One after the other after the other
