for Kylie

Not the least hard thing to bear when
they go from us, these quiet friends,
is that they carry away with them so
many years of our lives. Yet, if they
find warmth therein, who would
begrudge them those years that they
have so guarded?
And whatever they take,
be sure they have deserved.

S. and Amy,

I'm so very sorry, guys.

S., we haven't met yet, but Amy will tell you that I know a little bit about this particular brand of sorrow. I'm glad that you'll have Scully, Mulder, and the Belle to help you through it. And, not to be trite, but think about the wonderful life that Kylie had with you. One day, it may be of some comfort.

With love and sympathy,
-A

My condolensces to both of you. We lost Lily earlier this year, after symptoms that were much as you described for Kylie. We cried a lot, but it was the right thing to do. May you remember her with joy.

You are both in my thoughts, too. I had to put a German Shepherd down with uncontrollable epilepsy. It is always heartbreaking, we invest so much of ourselves in our pets who ask nothing in return but love, kindness, a warm bed, a good meal, and some play time.

Love,

shoe
